Monthly Favourites: May + June

This month's favourites post is a double whammy as I'm featuring the favourites of both May and June. I've also thrown in two fashion favourites and one lifestyle favourite.

Blistex Lip Relief Cream

I got a bit of this from my neighbour when I complained that my lips stay dry, no matter what I apply to it. I took it with me on our KNP holiday and it was a real livesaver! When we got home I bought my own tube and I've been using it ever since. It has the consistency of ointment and it smells quite medicinal, although not too strongly. A little goes a long way and I've found that, while it sinks in, some of it does stay on my lips for several hours. It has really helped my lips and I can highly recommend it for the cold winter months. You can buy this at Checkers, PnP, Clicks, and Dischem for around R66.

The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey hand cream

I love the smell of this range: sweet and comforting. The texture is quite light and when you apply it it almost feels more like a gel cream than a hand lotion. It sinks in easily and doesn't make my hands greasy, although I always apply hand cream to the backs of my hands only and then apply the excess to my palms. The tube is also handbag friendly and I will be stocking up on this.

essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume Mascara

I've now tried all three the Lash Princess mascaras and this one is a strong contender for my favourite. I love the curved brush as I find it so easy to use. The formula is also nice and wet and pitch black, making my lashes look super long and nicely separated. I also find that, after half a day's wear, I don't get mascara smudges on my brow bone like I get from other mascaras, which in my book is a very good thing. I can't remember the exact price but I believe this to be around R70 and you can get it from Clicks and Dischem.

essence Instant Matt Makeup Setting Spray

Oh my goodness. This spray actually does what it says it will do! My skin isn't left powdery or cakey, but it doesn't get oily by 11:00 either. It sets my makeup so much so that I don't really need to touch it up until, say, 17:00. I am really so impressed by this setting spray and the size is also perfect to pop in your handbag should you need touchups.

L.A. Girl Shady Slim Brow Pencil in "Brunette"

I feel like I have mentioned this in a favourites post before, because I totally should have. It's around R80 at Dischem and rivals many other eyebrow pencils. It has a super skinny twist up pencil on the one side and a decent spoolie on the other side. The pencil is not too creamy and not too waxy, so you don't have to make too much of an effort to get colour payoff, but you can't go overboard too easily, either. These pencils come in a variety of shades so I'm sure there will be something for everyone.

MAC lipsticks in "Diva" and "Viva Glam I"

Both of these lipsticks are matte and the shades are perfect for winter. Diva (left) is a burgundy, almost plum, red while Viva Glam I (right) is more of a dark brick red. Both shades are absolutely beautiful and I've been wearing them to work quite often. They look super chic paired with anything from sweaters to coats to parkas. The lipsticks are drying but I don't find them to chap my lips at all. As they wear off during the day (leaving even stains) I just apply a little bit on top and they're good to go for another few hours.

H&M Parka

I tried this parka on at the end of April but didn't buy it. I haunted me for weeks and when I walked into H&M about 6 weeks later and it was still there in my size and my colour, I bought it. When it's warm outside you don't boil, but when it's cold outside you're nice and toasty. I love the khaki green as it goes with everything. The inside is (faux) sheeps wool and is so snug and warm. The parka is quite heavy but when you're wearing it you don't really notice it. I usually hate fur trims but this one just adds to the aesthetic of the parka. It also keeps my neck nice and warm and you can take it off if you don't want it on. The pockets are also nice and deep with clip buttons to close them, and the parka has both click buttons and a zip. R800 is a lot but I do think that this is an investment. I've also seen lots of other similar parkas for the same price, but not the same quality. I will be living in mine this winter!

Woolworths choker set

I have been wearing this three-piece choker set non-stop. There is the choker itself and then two other chains which are very fine with little pendants on. It's an easy way of getting into chokers and looks really great with most outfits. This set goes with a lot of outfits and I see myself wearing it for the rest of winter as well as through spring and summer. This was R120 at Woolworths.

Romoss Solo 5 10,000 mAh Power Bank

I am an avid Pokemon Go player (yes, yes I know) but that absolutely drains my phone's battery. I have a couple of power banks lying around but none seem to do a good job of actually charging my phone's battery. It takes about 16 hours to charge which seems long, but after that you can charge your phone five times before depleting the power bank's power. It also has two USB ports so you can charge two devices at once. One is a "super charge" USB port which charges your device in half of the time, while the other port is a normal one. You plug your phone in and press the power button on the power bank. The indicator lights then go on to indicate that the power bank is ready to use as well as telling you how much power is left. When the phone is fully charged, the power bank will switch off to conserve energy. There are many different Romoss power banks, but I find that this one struck the right balance between power and price. I bought mine from Takealot for R249 and I now see that they're regularly on special.

What were your favourites during the month? Let me know in the comment section.

Until next time!
