Getting my hair party-ready with Style Bar

The lovely folks over at Style Bar recently asked me if I'd like to come for a salon appointment, but being in Pretoria posed a problem. When the husband and I planned our trip to Cape Town, I decided that a new hairdo would complement my belated 30th birthday party perfectly!

On Saturday morning I went to the Style Bar in Tyger Valley and immediately felt welcome and at home. Tyger Valley is my favourite mall in the Western Cape, and as a former Capetonian, many of my teenage years were spent in Tyger Valley mall trawling with my best friend.

The salon is beautifully styled and looks very classy and modern. The outside is black with understated gold lettering. When you walk into the salon for the fist time you are met with an array of beautifully displayed hair products from Retail Box (they are the same company).

I was asked to sit at a large table in the middle of the salon, and offered something to drink. After a few minutes my stylist, Thea, came over and introduced herself. She talked me through several options for my hair and showed me hair dye samples in a book. After deciding on a course of action, she went to mix the hair dye and promptly started putting foils in my hair while I was still sitting at the table. The table, I later learnt, is quite a social area in the salon: there were a few of us sitting there and it was very entertaining listening to all the stories and watching the other hair stylists work their magic.

After about 45 minutes, my hair was washed and a tint applied. After the tint was left on for about 15 minutes, it was rinsed out and then I received an amazing scalp massage. I honestly felt that I could take a nap right there and then!

When Thea started blow drying my hair I could see the lovely ombré peeking through, and a couple of the other stylists also gathered around us and complimented Thea on her excellent ombré-ing. She blow dried my hair and softened a few of the layers around my face. I had cut my hair about six weeks prior to that appointment, so it wasn't necessary to take any length off. After softening my layers, Thea then curled my hair with a straightening iron. She made relatively tight curls so that they would loosen by the time my party started. Below are a few snaps of the amazing end result, I love my new hair!

A big thank you to Thea and Style Bar for taking such good care of me. If you are interested in making an appointment, visit Style Bar's website for their contact details.

Until next time!
